The first Popcorn Recruiters Academy was held in November 2020. We gathered students and recent graduates who were eager to build their careers in the area of recruitment. Popcorn Recruiters received more than 100 applications and, after carefully screening each and every candidate, 12 were selected to attend the academy.
The event lasted for two days and the participants got an opportunity to learn about full-cycle recruitment, conducting competency-based interviews, building Boolean strings, market intelligence, and launching a recruitment marketing campaign.
Shortly after the academy, we launched our very first (official) Popcorn Recruiters Internship program! We were thrilled when we received 40 applications from young, ambitious candidates looking to start their careers in recruitment. The choice was hard but what made us proud was to notice that the top 5 candidates all attended the Popcorn Recruiters Academy.
Meet Erma, a Popcorn Recruiters Academy attendee who is now a trusted Talent Research Specialist in our team! Here’s what she had to say about the entire journey.
“Never before have I had a direct insight into the labor market in Bosnia and Herzegovina, let alone in Europe. I tried Googling and researching the process and the differences between in-house and agency recruitment, just to get familiar with the most common phrases in the industry. But, the knowledge I gathered that way can’t be compared to what I learned at the Popcorn Recruiters Academy.
The first thing that impressed me, was the educators’ extent of knowledge, friendliness, and willingness to share all the tips and tricks they learned throughout their everyday work while leaving space and encouraging all of our beginner’s questions.
What I also found really useful were all the tasks and simulations we went through to gain a better understanding of the everyday activities of a recruiter and agency as a whole. And even though the Popcorn Recruiters Academy was held online, we were so immersed in the experience, learning about boolean strings and performing interview roleplay, as though we were already there searching for the perfect candidate and negotiating the quirks and benefits of the new job opportunity.
The two days of the academy went by so quickly and I wanted to prolong my participation in the recruitment world since I enjoyed the entire experience so much. But none of this would have happened, if the educators weren’t so passionate about their work and so friendly and open, which automatically motivated me to invest myself as much as we can.
I really hoped that I would get the chance to continue my recruitment education and maybe someday be a part of the story. So, I applied to the internship at Popcorn Recruiters immediately after the academy was finished and I hoped for the best.
Now, six months in, I can say that it was the right decision all along. I have found my career path, working in such a relaxing and goal-oriented environment with amazing colleagues always ready to give a helping hand when needed, encouraging self-improvement while laughing and enjoying it along the way.”
